亀戸アートセンターは、トマ・ジラン個展「VOID MOTION」-空虚のモーションを開催します。

トマ・ジランは、抽象表現の一つであるジェスチュラルアブストラクションの領域を追求し、

油絵具、スプレーガン、ブラシ、ローラーなどを用い、アナログとデジタルの表現の関係性を模索している作家です。

彼は発光や奥行きといった、色彩が織りなす作用と、筆の痕跡やピクセル化されたデジタルの要素を画面に取り入れることで、観る者の視覚的な感覚を翻弄する作品を制作しています。

本展は20点以上の油絵とデジタルアニメーション作品で構成され、アニメーションでは空虚(VOID)から徐々に何かが生まれ、抽象的な要素がゆっくりと浮かび上がってくる様子を表現しています。スケッチから完成まで、その時の感覚や熱量を保ったまま即興的にキャンバスへとアウトプットするトマ・ジランの世界をこの機会にご高覧ください。

Kameido Art Center is pleased to announce Thomas Gillant’s solo exhibition “VOID MOTION”.

Thomas Gillant’s work refers to gestural abstraction. Using oil paint with spray guns, brushes and rollers, he explores the relationship between analog and digital expression. He incorporates the effects of color, such as luminescence and depth, as well as brush strokes and pixelated digital elements into his paintings to create works that toys with the viewer’s visual senses.

This exhibition consists of more than 20 oil paintings and digital animations. The animations depict the gradual birth of something from an emptiness (void) and to the slow emergence of an abstract element.

We invite you to take this opportunity to view the work of Thomas Gillant, who improvises and outputs his vision to the canvas, from the time of his initial sketches to the completion of the artworks.

【 作家ステートメント Artist Statement 】

モニターがまるで勝手に動いているような奇妙な感覚に魅かれるものがある。

テレビのノイズやデジタルの不具合は、スクリーンの向こう側で何かがコントロールしているかのように思わせる不思議な魅力がある。

"VOID MOTION "は、そのようなビジュアルからインスピレーションを受け、テクノロジーはいかにして命を彷彿させるような現象を生み出すのかを描いている。

この抽象画シリーズは、コンピューターイメージの特徴を模倣し、油絵具の持つ可能性を生かすことによって、さらに表現豊かに発展させたものである。

鮮やかなグラデーション、スプレーで描かれたファジーな背景、ピクセル化を連想させるシャープで幾何学的な筆の動きが織りなす劇場である。

絵画との対話の中で、一連のビデオアニメーションは、誕生、流動、そして無へと回帰する生命サイクルのアイデアを探求している。

There is something fascinating about the oddity of a monitor seemingly acting on his own.

TV noise and digital glitches have an uncanny appeal, as if an entity took control behind the screen.

“VOID MOTION” takes inspiration on those visuals and how life-like randomness manifests via technology.

The series of abstract paintings emulates characteristics of computer imagery and expanded it by the paint physicality and possibilities.

They are a theater of eerie gradient atmospheres, fuzzy spray-painted backgrounds and sharp fractal brush strokes reminiscent of pixelation.

In dialogue with the paintings, a set of video animations explore the idea of cycles of birth, flow and return to nothingness.
