この度、亀戸アートセンターでは奥村美海 個展「マイクロレター」を開催いたします。

奥村美海はドローイングや壁の落書き、たわいのないメモなどに残された様々な筆跡や線をモチーフに、絵画やインスタレーション作品を制作している作家です。

幼少期に描いていた落書きや、漫画のキャラクターの模写といった「絵を描く」という行為が、強烈な原体験として印象に残っているという奥村は、その経験が今でも自身の絵画のベースになっていると言います。コロナの時期をきかっけに、それまで自分に課していた作品制作のルールや手法から離れ、のびのびとした広がりのある絵画のフォーマットを模索する中で、自身や他者が残した落書きの筆跡、痕跡に、絵画としての「美的な何か」を見出し、それが幼少期の「絵を描く」という原体験と接続したことで様々な線の収集を始めます。

彼女の作品は、収集した線を解体、再構築していきながら、自分にとって心地の良いノイズの状態まで近づけていったものを素材として用い、ドリッピングやポーリングといったテクニックや、即興的に描く自身の絵筆のドローイングを織り混ぜながら平面や空間を構成することで形作られます。

落書きに残された筆跡を引用しつつも、そこにあった文字や言葉、線は解体、再構築されていき、元々の意味は変化していきます。それら絵画の「素材」となった線と即興的な描画が、支持体の上で化学反応を起こし、そこで得た手の快楽に任せて描くことで、奥村は作品の絵画としての純度を高めようと試みています。

本展示では、これまでの筆跡収集をベースに日常生活に根付いたメモや、家族が営んでいるお店の帳簿など一つの役割しか持たない小さな筆跡、総称して奥村が名付けた「マイクロレター」に焦点をあてた新作の絵画作品や小作品が並びます。

・作家コンセプト　

奥村美海は、自己や他者の筆跡をモチーフに、それらを再構成するような絵画やインスタレーションを制作してきました。本展示では、２０２１年から続ける筆跡の収集プロジェクトをベースとしながら、その中でも奥村が特に着目する、日常における矮小な目的のもと書かれた小さな筆跡（＝マイクロレター）に焦点を当てた作品を中心に展示を行います。

Minami Okumura's art involves creating paintings and installations using a mix of techniques like dripping, poling, and improvised brush drawings on flat surfaces and spaces. Okumura uses collected lines which she deconstructs and reconstructs, transforming their original meanings. This exhibition features new paintings and small-scale works focusing on "micro-letter," short handwritten notes and ledgers from daily life, derived from Okumura's collection of handwritten materials.

Artist Concept

Minami Okumura has been creating paintings and installations that use the handwriting of self and others as motifs and reconstruct them. This exhibition is based on the handwriting collection project that Okumura has been carrying on since 2021, and will feature works that focus on small handwriting (=micro letters) written for trivial purposes in everyday life, which Okumura has paid particular attention to.

奥村美海 ／ アーティスト

1999年静岡県生まれ。東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科博士後期課程在籍。

絵画やインスタレーションを中心に、自己や他者の身体を介して生み出される線やイメージ、ストローク、または様々な文脈や背景のもとえがかれた筆跡をモチーフとしながら、作品を制作している。

主な展示に「第72回 東京藝術大学卒業・修了作品展」（東京都美術館、東京、2024）「ART SESSION by 銀座蔦屋書店」（銀座蔦屋書店、東京、2023）「KUMA Experiment vol.6“一層”」（クマ財団ギャラリー、東京、2023）など。

Minami Okumura / Artist

Born in Shizuoka, Japan in 1999. Doctoral student at Tokyo University of the Arts, Graduate School of Fine Arts.

She works mainly in painting and installation, using lines, images, and strokes created through her own and others' bodies, as well as brushstrokes drawn in various contexts and backgrounds as motifs.

Minami Okumura will hold a talk event with artist Yuka Hotta as a related event to her solo exhibition “Micro Letter.

Yuka Hotta
