During the exhibition, visitors can have a design by the artist silkscreen printed on the spot onto clothing or fabric items they bring, such as T-shirts, shirts, and tote bags. Items should be made of 100% cotton, 100% polyester, or a cotton blend.

亀戸アートセンターでは、wu-tang 個展「メロンの編み目をまっすぐに」を開催します。
wu-tangはこれまで、石を主な素材に、チューリップやハート、星、芋虫など、子どもの落書きのような素朴さを持ち、誰もが直感的に認識できるモチーフを用いた彫刻作品を制作してきました。
本展のタイトル「メロンの編み目をまっすぐに」は、メロンを単純な絵として描いたとき、複雑な表面の網目が、まっすぐな線の組み合わせとして表されることから付けられています。ものの特徴を捉え、シンプルな形へと置き換えるこの感覚は、wu-tangがこれまで扱ってきたモチーフにも共通するものです。
大学で石彫を学んだwu-tangは、石を二つに割り、一方を焼成して変色させた後、再び元の形に接合する作品など、石という素材の性質や状態の変化を取り入れた制作を続けてきました。一方で、おもちゃやブリキ、食材、日用品など、身のまわりで出会ったさまざまなものにも関心を向け、その時々の発見を柔軟に作品へと取り入れています。こうした制作の背景には、学生時代からジャンルに捉われず、さまざまな場所や文化に触れ、自身の関心を広げてきた経験があります。石彫を軸としながらも、素材や形式を限定せずに制作を展開していることも、wu-tangの特徴のひとつです。
本展では、新作の石彫作品を中心に、展示空間を構成する什器の制作にも積極的に取り組み、これまで以上に素材や形の幅を広げた展示を展開します。
これまでグループ展を中心に作品を発表してきたwu-tangにとって、本展は初めての個展となります。
複雑なメロンの網目を、まっすぐな線にしてみる。身近なものの特徴を見つけ、シンプルな形へと置き換える。そんな視点から生まれた作品を、ぜひ会場でご覧ください。
Kameido Art Center is pleased to present wu-tang’s solo exhibition, Straightening the Melon’s Netting.
wu-tang has primarily worked with stone, creating sculptures based on familiar, instantly recognizable motifs such as tulips, hearts, stars, and caterpillars. His works often possess the simple, direct quality of a child’s drawing.
The exhibition title, Straightening the Melon’s Netting, comes from the way the complex web-like pattern on the surface of a melon can be represented as a combination of straight lines when reduced to a simple drawing. This process of identifying the defining characteristics of an object and translating them into simple forms is also central to many of the motifs wu-tang has explored in his work.
Having studied stone sculpture at university, wu-tang has continued to explore the material qualities of stone and the ways in which its appearance and condition can be transformed. In one body of work, for example, he splits a stone in two, fires one half to alter its color, and then rejoins the pieces in their original form. At the same time, his interests extend beyond stone to toys, tin objects, food, everyday items, and other things encountered in daily life, incorporating these discoveries freely into his work. This approach reflects experiences dating back to his student years, when he explored a wide range of places and cultures without limiting himself to a particular genre. While stone sculpture remains at the core of his practice, his openness to different materials and formats is a defining aspect of his work.
For this exhibition, wu-tang will present a new series of stone sculptures while also actively creating display structures and furnishings as part of the exhibition space, expanding the range of materials and forms in his practice.
Having previously presented his work mainly in group exhibitions, this marks wu-tang’s first solo exhibition.

wu-tang ／ フルーツ占い師など
2000年 東京生まれ。
2023年 女子美術大学立体アート専攻卒業。
石や陶などの古典的な素材以外にも、食べ物や日用品などのありふれた素材を用いて、日常の中のおもしろを集める。
“生制活作”を掲げ、人と関わるワークショップや共同制作なども積極的に行い、生活と制作を縦横無尽に駆けまわる。
近年はフルーツ占い師としての顔も持ち、友人と100均をテーマにした書籍を制作するなど、活動の領域を軽やかに広げている。

wu-tang / Fruit Fortune-Teller, etc.
Born in Tokyo in 2000.
Graduated from the Department of Art and Design, Joshibi University of Art and Design, majoring in Three-Dimensional Art, in 2023.
Working not only with traditional materials such as stone and ceramics, but also with familiar materials including food and everyday objects, wu-tang collects amusing and intriguing moments found in daily life.
Under the motto “生制活作”, wu-tang actively engages in workshops, collaborative projects, and other forms of making that involve interaction with people, moving freely between everyday life and artistic practice.
In recent years, wu-tang has also taken on the role of a “fruit fortune-teller” and co-created a book with friends themed around 100-yen shops, continuing to expand the scope of their practice in a playful and fluid way.
